Abstract:
On 9 September 2020 at 04:56:58 UTC an earthquake with magnitude Mw 3.5 occurred in the Sicily region (http://terremoti.ingv.it/event/25235011). The earthquake was felt in an area including western Sicily. The seismologists on duty in the 24H seismic monitoring room of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) located the event in the province of Trapani, 2 km north-east of Salemi and at a preliminary depth of 15 km. The same area was affected five days after by three Ml > 3 events (http://terremoti.ingv.it) detected within a minute starting from 03:47:01 UTC on 14 September 2020.
Following the four events and the associated aftershock sequence, the SISMIKO Operational Group was activated for the installation of temporary seismic stations to integrate the permanent stations of the National Seismic Network deployed in the region.
